Cherith Music is home to the combined musical talents of Nigel and Row Steady, who have been making music together since 1980!
Rowena is an inspirational instrument music teacher specialising in classical guitar (her first study), but also rhythm guitar, folk guitar and bass guitar. In addition she teaches piano, keyboard and recorders. She obtained an honours degree in music from Christ Church College, Canterbury in 1983 and has been teaching music privately and occasionally in schools since then. She has played in various worship groups and bands over the years and more recently used her experience as an orchestral percussionist to take on the role of drummer in a rock band! Currently Rowena is Musical Director for the Polden Wheel Diocese Worship Group ‘Polden Praise’.
Row and Nigel met up in 1979 at a small Christian Fellowship in Saltdean near Brighton and were married in 1982. Nigel introduced Row to the wonders of Progressive Rock and Row introduced Nigel to horse riding!
Nigel is a keyboard player who started playing the piano when he was eight years old. He has played in many different bands over the years. He is also a sound recordist and gained a Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Award in Music Technology (Recording) with Grade Distinction in 2010.
In reviewing our music ministry together we have realised that while we may not have blazed a trail of commercial success, there are countless people that have been reached and have been touched by our music in a positive way. Through leading worship and playing at weddings, concerts, pubs, parties and even funerals we have kept true to the vision we were given, to reach out to people with our music and point them to where our music comes from.
